Newcastle United have completed the signing of Monaco midfielder Aladji Bamba on a five-year deal, in a transfer worth up to £34m, following a medical on Tyneside on Thursday.
The 20-year-old Frenchman said he was thrilled by Newcastle’s interest, noted the club’s history and the impressive stadium, and said he can’t wait to play in front of the fans. He added that he’s eager to test himself in the Premier League, feels ready after last season’s development, and will give everything for the club.
Bamba only made his professional debut last season but stood out in both Ligue 1 and the Champions League. Among Ligue 1 midfielders with at least 500 minutes, he ranked in the top five for average duels won (9.1 per game), tackles (3.6), successful take-ons (1.6) and aerial duels won (1.9).
Head coach Eddie Howe described Bamba as an exciting young addition who broadens Newcastle’s midfield options and has significant room to grow, adding that his progress at Monaco has been impressive and the club believes it can help elevate his game further.
