St Johnstone bow out of…

St Johnstone were knocked out of the Premier Sports Cup after East Fife grabbed a last-gasp equaliser, while Premiership counterparts Dundee United edged through as Montrose squandered a home opportunity against Spartans.

Needing only a draw to top Group B, Montrose instead fell 2-0 to visitors from the division below.

St Johnstone required a win to keep alive hopes of a best runners-up spot but ultimately finished third behind Inverness Caledonian Thistle and East Fife, with both of those sides also missing the knockout phase.

Aberdeen, Ayr United, Kilmarnock, Ross County and Stenhousemuir join United and Caley Thistle as group winners.

Dundee and Partick Thistle also progress as two of the three best runners-up.

The final group winner and remaining best runners-up place will be settled on Sunday.

St Mirren will clinch Group C if they avoid defeat at home to Dunfermline Athletic.

If Dunfermline win, they will be guaranteed progression as either group winners or runners-up thanks to a superior goal difference over Queen’s Park.
