Federico Chiesa says his focus is firmly on Liverpool despite ongoing talk about his future.
Over two seasons at Anfield under Arne Slot, the Italian forward has started just one Premier League match and scored five goals in 50 appearances across all competitions.
Chiesa, 28, joined from Juventus in 2024 for £12.5m on a deal running to 2028. In June, he told La Gazzetta dello Sport that if he couldn’t find consistency in the Premier League, he would have to consider other options.
After finding the net in the first friendly of the Andoni Iraola era on Saturday—a 4-2 win over Sunderland—Chiesa said he’s happy at Liverpool, loves the club and its supporters, and is doing everything he can to earn his chance, adding that Liverpool is the only thing on his mind right now.
Asked if Iraola’s arrival offered a clean slate following Slot’s June departure, he noted that every season feels like a fresh start. While he joked there may have been too many “new starts,” he stressed he’s fully committed to impressing the new manager—just as he tried to do under Slot last year.
Chiesa said he felt ready for a bigger role last season, but acknowledged that selection depended on the coach. He wanted more minutes, accepted the decisions as part of football, and called this campaign a new chapter with a new boss to focus on.
