Manchester City has announced that Rodri will be sidelined for a while following back surgery.
The midfielder underwent the operation on Monday after experiencing “discomfort for some time.”
The club remains optimistic that the 30-year-old, who has been rumored to be making a summer switch to Real Madrid, will have a relatively “short” recovery.
In a statement released on Tuesday, City confirmed, “Rodri has successfully undergone minor back surgery. The midfielder has been experiencing discomfort for some time and has now had a procedure to resolve the issue, beginning a brief rehabilitation period.”
Sources indicate that City is still hopeful of negotiating a new contract with Rodri, who is in the final year of his current deal.
Nonetheless, the club is prepared for a potential offer from Real Madrid following Rodri’s impressive performances for Spain at the World Cup.
To strengthen their midfield, City has already signed Elliot Anderson from Nottingham Forest.
Additionally, there is interest in Lille’s Moroccan midfielder Ayyoub Bouaddi.
