Bournemouth have reached an agreement worth nearly £26m to sign Benfica centre-back Antonio Silva.
The 22-year-old Portugal international is travelling for a medical after the clubs settled on an initial £21.4m fee with up to £4.3m in add-ons.
Replacing Marcos Senesi, who joined Tottenham on a free earlier this month, was a priority for the Cherries.
Club sources say the deal required patience, with a breakthrough only coming after Benfica’s Europa League qualifying win over Swiss side St Gallen on Thursday.
Silva has been a first-team regular since 2022 and has played in the Champions League, Europa League and Club World Cup.
He has 20 caps and has been named in Portugal’s squads for the 2022 World Cup and Euro 2024, but was not selected by Roberto Martinez for this summer’s tournament.
Silva is set to become Bournemouth’s second signing of the window following striker Alvaro Rodriguez’s arrival from Elche in a deal worth up to £25.7m.
With new manager Marco Rose in place, Bournemouth are targeting a stable summer after selling more than £200m of players last year.
They intend to resist bids for key trio Alex Scott, Rayan and Junior Kroupi. Kroupi is expected to be out for three to four months after a pre-season injury.
