As Liverpool’s first open training session under Andoni Iraola kicked off, Robert Lewandowski was off in the background taking penalties.
The workout was held at Chicago Fire’s performance center, where the 37-year-old Polish striker now plays.
Under a grey sky, Lewandowski sent one spot-kick over the bar just as Fire wrapped up and Iraola’s players got started.
Here’s what stood out from Liverpool’s session.
Earlier in the week, a social media clip showed Dominik Szoboszlai and Curtis Jones—who has been linked with Inter Milan—arguing at the end of Wednesday’s win over Wrexham.
On Thursday, Szoboszlai downplayed it, saying everyone is pulling in the same direction for the club and for each other.
In any case, Szoboszlai, Jones and Kostas Tsimikas, who was also in the video, emerged together smiling, juggling the ball and joking in front of the cameras.
The disagreement was believed to stem from Szoboszlai handing the captain’s armband to Tsimikas instead of Jones, but by Friday it appeared resolved.
A bit of fire is no bad thing at the elite level, though with how easily moments are filmed these days, some issues are best kept in-house.
It wasn’t ideal—and it underlined for Iraola the need to name a vice-captain soon, with the role vacant after Andy Robertson’s departure.
