Manchester United head coach Marc Skinner has departed by mutual agreement ahead of the new Women’s Super League season.
The 43-year-old spent five years in charge and delivered United’s first major silverware with victory in the 2024 Women’s FA Cup final.
He also took the team into the Women’s Champions League group stage for the first time last season, while finishing runners-up in three domestic cup finals.
Skinner leaves a month before the campaign begins, with United set to visit London City Lionesses on 4 September (19:00 BST).
The former Birmingham City boss had expressed concerns about limited investment in the squad, and United’s summer has been relatively quiet.
This year the club shifted its recruitment strategy toward younger talent, aiming for sustainable long-term progress.
BBC Sport reported in July that the girls’ academy will train at Carrington, the club’s main facility, this season.
Even so, supporters have voiced frustration at the lack of transfer activity, while rivals Manchester City, Arsenal and Chelsea have strengthened their squads.
London City Lionesses, who finished fifth last term, signed two-time Ballon d’Or winner Alexia Putellas, and Lyon defender Alice Sombath has joined Tottenham.
It is understood Skinner and the club held talks over the summer and agreed to part ways.
Club sources say the search for a successor is well advanced, with background checks on prospective candidates already completed.
A key criterion for the new appointment is a proven record of developing players.
