Gio Reyna, the United States midfielder, has finalized his transfer to Strasbourg from Borussia Mönchengladbach.
On Tuesday, the Ligue 1 club announced that Reyna, 23, has signed a five-year contract, with the transfer fee reported at €3 million (approximately $3.5 million).
Reyna represented the U.S. in all five matches at the World Cup, notably scoring a standout goal in the opening 4-1 victory over Paraguay.
This transfer marks the end of Reyna’s seven-year tenure in the Bundesliga, where he played for Borussia Dortmund and Gladbach.
During his six seasons at Borussia Dortmund, Reyna netted 19 goals and provided 18 assists across 147 competitive matches.
He spent one season on loan at Nottingham Forest between 2024 and 2025, although he struggled to make a significant impact in the Premier League.
He joined Gladbach in 2025 but faced challenges, recording just one goal and one assist in 20 appearances.
Throughout his time in Germany, injuries have hindered his progress.
Reyna has made 43 appearances and scored 10 goals for the USMNT.

“Gio is a talented player who unfortunately only showed flashes of his potential during his time at Borussia,” commented Rouven Schröder, Gladbach’s head of sports. “Due to a variety of injuries, he was unable to consistently demonstrate his abilities on the field. We wish him the best of luck and success in this exciting new challenge in France.”
Strasbourg, which shares an ownership group with Chelsea, finished eighth in Ligue 1 last season and is not competing in European tournaments this year.
Reyna will be coached by Hugo Oliveira, a former assistant to Marco Silva who recently moved from Fulham to Benfica.
