England midfielder Jordan Henderson has signed for
Chelsea
on a two-year contract after mutually agreeing to end his deal with
Brentford
.
Henderson, 36, captained
Liverpool
to the 2019-20 Premier League title and, during his Anfield career, lifted the Champions League, FA Cup, two League Cups, the Uefa Super Cup and the Fifa Club World Cup.
In 2023 he joined Saudi side Al-Ettifaq, moved to Dutch club Ajax in January 2024, then returned to the Premier League with
Brentford
last summer, making 32 top-flight appearances in 2025-26.
“Given the stature of this club, a manager in [Xabi Alonso] whom I hold in high regard, and the talent in the squad, this was an opportunity I simply couldn’t pass up,” Henderson said.
“My focus is on giving everything every day, on and off the pitch, to support my teammates and the team as much as possible. I’m really excited to get started.”
Henderson came through the
Sunderland
academy and made his Premier League debut for the Black Cats as a substitute in a 5-0 defeat to
Chelsea
on 1 November 2008.
