Rumors had been swirling that Cristiano Ronaldo was gearing up to marry his long-time partner Georgina Rodríguez in his hometown of Funchal, located on Portugal’s Madeira island this past Saturday. This led hundreds of fans and well-wishers to gather at the cathedral, eager to witness the celebrity couple’s special moment.
Despite Ronaldo’s family publicly denying the wedding rumors, throngs of fans still converged on Funchal, hoping to catch a glimpse of the superstar as he tied the knot.
However, in a disappointing turn of events for the expectant crowds, it was later revealed that the ceremony at Sé Cathedral was not for Ronaldo and Rodríguez, but rather for another couple entirely.

The realization struck the fans gathered outside as the bride—who was late, as tradition dictates—was not Georgina, but rather a woman named Nicole. She arrived to marry her fiancé, Fábio, who awaited her at the altar.
This was confirmed by a post on the cathedral’s official Facebook page, which stated: “Congratulations to the couple Nicole and Fábio. After much confusion outside with numerous journalists and tourists, we managed to close the church and proceed with the celebration.”
Another post shared images capturing the crowd outside the cathedral as Nicole arrived, noting, “We’ve never experienced anything like this here at Sé. It was incredibly challenging for the bride to enter the church due to the crowd.”
Surprisingly, some guests found humor in the unexpected chaos fueled by the speculation surrounding Ronaldo. One guest remarked to the local news outlet Diario de Noticias da Madeira, “We feel like celebrities! It’s incredible that people think Ronaldo would get married without security.”

Ronaldo himself managed to chuckle at the situation, reacting to an Instagram post from Jornal da Madeira with a stream of cry-laughing emojis.
Nonetheless, the Al Nassr star has yet to comment on when he and Georgina might actually exchange vows.
The couple got engaged last August, with Ronaldo presenting Georgina with a lavish ring estimated to be around 30 carats and valued at up to $5 million.
Amidst all the global excitement for a wedding that wasn’t theirs, the day ultimately belonged to the couple who unexpectedly attracted an audience far beyond their expectations.
Congratulations on your wedding, Nicole and Fábio!
