Southampton boss Tonda…

The German coach said some media outlets had portrayed him more negatively than the reality, and he thanked Southampton owner Dragan Solak for not being influenced by public sentiment.

In June, Solak said he would keep Eckert in his job, and the businessman was seen in Germany with the squad during a late-July pre-season training camp.

“There has been a lot reported, and I haven’t given many interviews,” Eckert said.

“An image has been created that, in my view, is far from the truth.

“If you look behind the scenes, the picture is very different. It means a lot that the owner focused on what actually happened rather than public opinion.

“He [Solak] made his decision, and I’m very grateful for that.”
