Tottenham defender Micky van de Ven says the club’s path is clear after agreeing a new long-term contract.
The Netherlands international joined from Wolfsburg in 2023 on a six-year deal running to 2029.
BBC Sport understands he was weighing up his future in north London before Roberto De Zerbi’s arrival in March, a pivotal factor in the 25-year-old’s decision to commit to Spurs.
Van de Ven helped Tottenham lift the Europa League in 2025 and captained the team for the final six games of last season as they avoided Premier League relegation.
“I’ve loved Spurs from the moment I arrived,” Van de Ven said. “I love the club and the fans, I’ve developed a lot here, and the club’s ambition is clear. I want to be part of it and I’m excited for what’s ahead.”
Head coach De Zerbi called him “one of the best centre-backs in Europe and a key player for us,” adding: “We’re building something strong, and players like Micky are central to that future.”
Since moving from the Bundesliga, Van de Ven has made 96 appearances for Spurs. He has 24 caps for the Netherlands and played at the World Cup this summer.
Tottenham have finished 17th in each of the past two seasons, narrowly staying up on the final day in 2025-26, but have invested £237m this summer, including a club-record £100m to sign Sandro Tonali from Newcastle.
