Barcelona striker Ferran Torres is set to join the reigning European champions, Paris Saint-Germain, with both clubs reaching an agreement in principle for around €50 million ($58 million), as confirmed by a source to ESPN.
The transfer is anticipated to be finalized shortly, with Torres expected to travel to Paris for a medical examination prior to signing with the French club.
Earlier this week, ESPN reported that Barcelona had turned down an initial €40 million offer from PSG, but negotiations were still active.
Though Barça was open to retaining Torres and even extending his contract, they agreed to his request to leave with just a year remaining on his current deal.
At 26, Torres joins PSG in great form, having scored the decisive goal for Spain in the World Cup final against Argentina.
Torres will reunite with coach Luis Enrique, under whom he previously played while with the Spanish national team. His arrival will bolster one of Europe’s most formidable forward lines.
Originally starting as a winger, Torres has transitioned into a central role and is anticipated to play as a No. 9 in Paris, especially following Gonçalo Ramos‘s move to AC Milan.

Last season, Torres scored 21 goals for Barça, and his departure leaves the Spanish champions without a clear striker following Robert Lewandowski‘s transfer to the Chicago Fire this summer.
Atlético Madrid’s Julián Álvarez is a top target for Barça, but they may need to explore other options as negotiations for this deal are proving challenging.
