Leeds United have reached an agreement worth £8.5m to sign Swiss defender Nico Elvedi.
The 29-year-old is due in England on Monday for a medical after Borussia Monchengladbach accepted an offer of £6.8m plus £1.7m in add-ons.
Elvedi, a versatile Switzerland international with 73 caps who was part of his country’s squad at this summer’s World Cup, is set to end his 11-year spell with the Bundesliga club and move to Elland Road.
After a 4-0 pre-season win over Augsburg, Leeds manager Daniel Farke said he would only comment once medical checks and paperwork are complete, but added he expects progress in the next 48 hours.
Elvedi’s arrival would allow fringe defender Sebastiaan Bornauw to join Hamburg on an initial loan with an option to buy.
Leeds begin their Premier League campaign away to Nottingham Forest next Saturday.
