Newcastle United are in advanced negotiations to sign Benfica defender Amar Dedic.
The club have been seeking a new right-back since Kieran Trippier left for Wolves on a free transfer after his contract expired earlier this summer.
Dedic, 23, previously worked with Newcastle head coach Matthias Jaissle at Red Bull Salzburg and was a regular as they retained the Austrian Bundesliga title in 2023.
Talks with Benfica are progressing over the Bosnia-Herzegovina international, who is valued at around £30m.
If the deal is completed, Dedic could be involved in Newcastle’s season opener against Liverpool on 23 August, with Tino Livramento still recovering from a calf injury sustained on England duty in June.
Dedic has 31 caps and started three of Bosnia-Herzegovina’s four World Cup matches. Last season in Portugal’s Primeira Liga, he ranked second among full-backs for carries into the attacking third (49), and third for progressive carries (202) and total carries (325).
