Premier League transfer…

Premier League transfer…

The financial gulf between England and the rest of Europe is striking.

Premier League clubs have shelled out £2.14bn this summer, compared with £780m in Serie A, £515m in La Liga, £505m in the Bundesliga and £412m in Ligue 1.

In other words, England’s top flight has already outspent those four major European leagues combined.

Chelsea lead the splurge at £348m, well ahead of the pack. Tottenham follow on £228m, with Arsenal and Manchester City both at £151m. Chelsea, Spurs and City have each broken their club transfer records during this window.

It’s not just the traditional heavyweights, either. Aston Villa, Brentford, Brighton and Leeds United have all set new record signings this summer. Coventry City, Hull City and Ipswich Town—the three promoted sides—round out the list, highlighting how broadly the division’s spending power now stretches.

Looking across the whole of 2026, and factoring in Crystal Palace’s January capture of Jorgen Strand Larsen, 11 of the 20 Premier League clubs have set a new transfer record this calendar year.
