Barcelona complete £65m…

Spain’s World Cup-winning midfielder Rodri says he’s ready to “feel that buzz again” after completing a transfer to Barcelona from Manchester City.

The 2024 Ballon d’Or winner has agreed a four-year deal at the Camp Nou, with Barca paying a fee of around £65m.

It marks his return to La Liga for the first time since leaving Atletico Madrid for City in 2019.

“I’m thrilled to start this new chapter. It’s a fresh challenge, a chance to experience different things and rediscover that excitement,” Rodri said.

“I’ve joined a hugely ambitious club that fits my character, and I’ll do everything I can to help us meet our goals this season.”

Speaking about working under German manager Hansi Flick, he added: “I’m pleased to have a coach who I believe will add a lot to my game.

“His approach is a bit different from what I’ve known, which will be enriching and help me grow as a player.”

Rodri, 30, departs City after seven seasons, making 298 appearances and winning 12 major trophies: four Premier League titles, two FA Cups, three EFL Cups, and the 2023 Champions League.

Although injuries affected his last two campaigns, he returned to peak form at this summer’s World Cup, earning player of the tournament as Spain claimed their second title.

In a farewell message to City supporters, Rodri said he leaves with immense pride in what was achieved together and deep gratitude for unforgettable memories.

He added that City helped him develop not only as a footballer but as a person, highlighting family milestones and his partner’s work in Manchester, which he said “shaped my whole life.”
