Who Can Challenge Erling…

Across 34 Premier League campaigns, 42 Golden Boots have been awarded, with extra trophies due to seasons that ended with joint top scorers.

Only 12 Golden Boot winners have also lifted the league title in the same year, offering encouragement to prolific scorers whose teams may not be in the title race this season.

Erling Haaland has helped raise the goal tally typically needed to win the award in recent years.

From 2018-19 to 2021-22, no player scored more than 23 league goals, but each of the past four Golden Boots required between 27 and 36.

Historically, most winners have been strikers or central forwards, but more recently players in other roles have claimed the prize more often.

Cristiano Ronaldo became the first winger to win it in 2007-08. Mohamed Salah has claimed the award a joint-record four times, sharing that mark with Thierry Henry—a total Haaland will look to match this season. The former Liverpool forward holds that record alongside Henry.

In the past eight years, wide forwards Sadio Mane and Son Heung-min have also earned a share of the Golden Boot.
