Since Iraola succeeded Arne Slot as Liverpool head coach, the Reds have recruited Victor Munoz for £34.5m and brought in Ronald Araujo on loan from Barcelona.
French centre-back Jeremy Jacquet also arrived from Rennes in a £60m deal that was finalised back in January.
On the departures side, Mohamed Salah, Andy Robertson, and Ibrahima Konate all moved on over the summer, while Curtis Jones is in Italy to wrap up a £30m transfer to Inter Milan.
Iraola said: “You’re asking what we need — for me, some things are obvious — especially out wide, where we don’t have enough players who are natural wingers.”
“Beyond that, we should stay open in the market to opportunities that can genuinely raise our level.”
“It’s not about signing for the sake of filling a spot. It’s about upgrading the squad. We already have very good players, so anyone who comes in has to match a certain standard.”
In a separate chat with Jamie Carragher on Sky Sports, he added: “We will definitely bring players in. Some deals go to the wire, but what matters is the final picture on September 1. We are still a bit light.”
It’s not the first time Iraola has expressed that view; he struck a similar tone during Liverpool’s pre-season tour in the USA when discussing the team’s defensive options, and inside Anfield there’s an expectation of a busy finish to the window for Liverpool.
On Jones’s prospective move to Inter Milan, Iraola said: “It’s not official yet, but there’s something ongoing. I spoke with Curtis in my first or second training session.”
“I rate him highly. His love for this club was obvious to me from the start, but I could see where this might lead — and that seems to be how it’s turned out.”
“I’ve never hidden it — Curtis is a top player — but after our conversation about his situation, I understood this was a move that could happen, and it now looks likely to do so.”
