Kane Receives Germany…

BERLIN — Bayern Munich’s forward, Harry Kane, has been named Germany’s Player of the Year for 2026, while Vincent Kompany earned the title of Coach of the Year following another stellar season for the club.

Kane netted an impressive 61 goals in all competitions, contributing significantly to Bayern’s victory in the German Supercup last season and helping the team secure the Bundesliga title as well as the German Cup, where he notably scored a hat trick in the final.

This season, he also played a crucial role in Bayern’s success in the German Supercup, where they triumphed over Borussia Dortmund with a 2-1 scoreline, although Kane did not find the back of the net in that match.

Kane secured 272 votes in the year-end poll conducted by Kicker magazine, earning him the top spot among a total of 659 members of the Association of German Sports Journalists (VDS), surpassing teammate Michael Olise, who received 203 votes.

According to Kicker, Deniz Undav placed third with 61 votes, followed by Bayern’s Joshua Kimmich with 21 and Hoffenheim’s goalkeeper Oliver Baumann with 14. There were also three invalid votes in the tally.

Kompany nearly clinched half of the votes for the Coach of the Year award, outpacing Freiburg’s Julian Schuster, who was the recipient last season.

Last year’s Player of the Year was Florian Wirtz.

The Player of the Year award has been given since 1960, while the Coach of the Year accolade has been presented since 2002. Franz Beckenbauer holds the record for the most Player of the Year awards with four, and both Jürgen Klopp and Felix Magath have won the Coach of the Year award three times.
