Pre-season hope can quickly turn sour, as
Manchester United
fans have just discovered.
On Saturday, Michael Carrick’s team fell to a
surprise 2-0 defeat at newly promoted Hull City, who were clearly the superior side.
Hull, returning to the Premier League after nine years away, had never previously beaten United in the top flight.
This is the first time United have lost to a promoted team on the opening day of a season.
The silver lining for United is that opening-day shocks are neither new nor rare.
