MIAMI — Coach Guillermo Hoyos of Inter Miami has been handed a one-match suspension by Major League Soccer due to repeated breaches of the league’s late kickoff policy.
According to a news release from MLS, “The Late Kickoff Policy requires all clubs to be on the field and prepared to play at the scheduled kickoff for both halves. Clubs and head coaches face escalating fines and potential suspension for repeated infractions, as stated in the league policy.”

Hoyos will serve his suspension during the match against CF Montréal on August 29 at Nu Stadium. In addition, MLS has imposed an undisclosed fine on Hoyos for his infractions.
MLS confirmed that Miami violated the late kickoff policy during matches against Nashville on August 15, Philadelphia Union on August 19, and Toronto on August 22.
Currently, Inter Miami is experiencing a five-game winless streak, with four losses and one draw in both the Leagues Cup and MLS.
Following the 2-1 loss to Toronto at Nu Stadium, Hoyos accepted responsibility for the team’s recent poor performance. “It’s part of the demands of competitive sports, but I believe these challenges are temporary and can be resolved with results, which ease the pressure,” he stated at a news conference. “At the moment, we’re struggling with results in a way we didn’t before; this impacts our mindset, causing situations to not go our way sometimes. I will reiterate that during a losing streak, the responsibility lies with me. Together with my team, we need to build and improve to turn this around as quickly as we can.”
Inter Miami currently ranks second in the Eastern Conference, accumulating 39 points from 21 matches.
