Julián Álvarez was back in training with Atlético Madrid on Sunday after sitting out three training sessions the previous week. The club has maintained its firm stance against allowing the talented forward to join Barcelona.
Atlético secured a 3-1 victory against Sevilla in LaLiga on Saturday, with Álex Baena netting twice, while coach Diego Simeone excluded Álvarez from the matchday squad.
On Friday, Atlético’s CEO Miguel Ángel Gil Marín reiterated the club’s unwillingness to engage in negotiations with Barcelona, stating, “we won’t negotiate with Barcelona, with absolute certainty,” but left open the possibility of a transfer to another club if Alvarez desired it.
Álvarez participated in a training session with Atlético teammates at the club’s Cerro del Espino training facility on Sunday. This marked his first group practice since missing training on Wednesday and Thursday, opting for individual training on Friday.
The club indicated that the Argentina international was experiencing health issues, with Gil Marín describing Alvarez as “confused” and in a challenging situation, both personally and professionally, attributing this turmoil to Barcelona.

“It’s a personal process,” Simeone commented after the match on Saturday when asked about Alvarez’s situation. “We are here to support him in sporting matters, and we hope he can contribute to us, as he’s an exceptional player.”
