Everton is reportedly interested in signing USMNT forward Folarin Balogun as the transfer deadline approaches on Tuesday, according to ESPN sources. However, acquiring the 25-year-old may depend on successfully moving on Iliman Ndiaye and Beto.
Manager David Moyes is focused on enhancing his team’s offensive capabilities during the final stretch of the transfer window, and Balogun is a top candidate to join the Premier League squad.
Balogun’s potential return to England, following previous stints with Arsenal and Middlesbrough, is contingent on Everton’s capacity to finalize several outgoings before the transfer window closes.
Meanwhile, Senegal forward Ndiaye is in discussions with Tottenham regarding a transfer to the London club, which could also involve a separate agreement for Richarlison to return to Everton, four years post his £50 million ($67m) transfer to Spurs.
ESPN sources indicate that securing both Richarlison and Balogun ahead of the Sept 1 deadline (11:00 p.m. BST / 6:00 p.m. EST) appears improbable unless Everton can generate funds by parting ways with former Udinese forward Beto.
Everton has approved Ndiaye’s departure after halting a plan to transfer 19-year-old midfielder Harrison Armstrong to Nottingham Forest in a £40 million deal, primarily due to fan backlash regarding the decision to sell the local talent.
Moyes emphasized the need for additional players following last week’s Carabao Cup victory over Preston, with Everton also showing interest in Sunderland defender Trai Hume and Manchester City winger Jack Grealish.
To secure both Richarlison and Balogun this week, Moyes will need to finalize a move for Beto.
