Barcelona is currently engaged in “advanced” discussions with Arsenal regarding the acquisition of Brazilian striker Gabriel Jesus, according to a source familiar with the situation.
The 29-year-old athlete has just one year left on his contract with the English side and has become a target for Barcelona after the club’s disappointment in securing Julián Álvarez.
Barcelona hopes to finalize a deal valued around €10 million ($11.5 million / £8 million) for Jesus before the transfer window closes on Tuesday. The insider mentioned that the player might even fly to Spain to complete the transfer as early as Monday.
Additionally, the potential acquisition of Jesus does not necessarily indicate the end of Barcelona’s interest in the Argentine international Álvarez.
Barcelona has prioritized Álvarez following the departures of Robert Lewandowski and Ferran Torres this summer.
However, Atlético has refused to engage in negotiations with Barcelona, accusing them of attempting to poach Álvarez, which has prompted the club to seek additional options for the striker position.
