Southampton’s Women’s Super League 2 team has faced major budget reductions after what head coach Simon Parker called a difficult summer.
As part of the reset, the side will play most home matches at Eastleigh FC’s Silverlake Stadium, moving away from St Mary’s, where they had been based for the past four seasons.
With the new season kicking off a week on Sunday, Parker told BBC Radio Solent that Southampton are now operating with the smallest budget in WSL 2, a factor that has significantly shaped their plans for 2026–27.
He noted the off-season brought several challenges. Club sources, however, reject any suggestion that the cuts are linked to the “spygate” controversy. Southampton’s men were removed from last season’s Championship play-offs after the club admitted to spying on opponents, and they began this season on minus four points.
In 2025–26, the women’s team mounted a promotion push and finished fifth—their best result since the side was re-formed nine years ago. Parker said last season’s goal was a top-half finish, and sustaining a promotion challenge for much of the campaign was encouraging. He added that the club had aimed to retain several key players but had to change course.
Earlier this summer, director of football Marieanne Spacey-Cale also stepped down after playing a pivotal role in the team’s rise.
