Karim Benzema, former striker for France and Real Madrid, has departed from Saudi Pro League club Al Hilal after a brief six-month spell.
The Riyadh-based club confirmed on Monday that the 38-year-old’s contract, which still had a year remaining, has been terminated by mutual agreement.
This announcement follows Al Hilal’s recent acquisition of Ollie Watkins, the England forward, for £51 million ($69 million) from Aston Villa.
A statement from the club revealed, “Al Hilal Club Company and French player Karim Benzema have mutually agreed to terminate their contractual relationship, concluding his time with Al Hilal’s first football team.”
The club expressed gratitude for Benzema’s contributions, highlighting his professionalism, commitment, and leadership both on and off the field.
Benzema, a five-time Champions League champion with Real Madrid and the 2022 Ballon d’Or recipient, signed with Al Hilal in February after a stint with fellow Saudi side Al Ittihad.
