Cody Gakpo is expected to remain with Liverpool after the club turned down a bid for the forward from Manchester City, sources have informed ESPN.
All summer long, Gakpo has been the subject of transfer speculation, with both City and Tottenham Hotspur vying for the services of the Netherlands international.
Manchester City ramped up negotiations with Liverpool over the weekend after learning that Gakpo might be interested in joining them at the Etihad.
However, Liverpool is only willing to let the 27-year-old go if they can find a suitable replacement, and they have not yet succeeded in doing so. Consequently, sources say the club declined a bid of £75 million plus £5 million in add-ons on Monday.
Liverpool has explored various options to strengthen their attacking lineup, including Brighton & Hove Albion’s Yankuba Minteh and Crystal Palace’s Ismaïla Sarr, but failed to reach an agreement with either club.
The arrival of left-winger Bradley Barcola from Paris Saint-Germain—in a deal valued at £106 million with potential add-ons of £17 million—has added further uncertainty to Gakpo’s future at Liverpool.

Since joining Liverpool from PSV Eindhoven in January 2023, Gakpo has netted 51 goals in 182 appearances across all competitions. He signed a five-year contract extension with the club in August 2025.
