Neither team worked the goalkeeper in a cagey first half at The Den, but Wrexham went in front on 28 minutes when Issa Kabore’s cross deflected off Sturge and into the Millwall net.
Soon after the interval, Wales international Kieffer Moore made it 2-0 with a superb strike from around 20 yards, and left wing-back Ekomie wrapped things up with his first goal for the club.
Manager Phil Parkinson said this display showed clear progress from last season’s win at the same venue, praising his side’s control for long stretches against a Millwall team that is difficult to face home or away.
Moore’s effort was his second of the season, adding to his goal in the opening-weekend 1-1 draw against former club Cardiff City. Parkinson hailed the 34-year-old for leading the line against three towering centre-backs, absorbing plenty of physical pressure, retaining possession well, and fully meriting his goal.
