Manchester City has secured the services of England international goalkeeper Anna Moorhouse on a short-term loan until the end of January 2027 from NWSL team Orlando Pride.
Moorhouse contributed to Orlando’s double victory in the 2024 NWSL Championship and NWSL Shield, achieving an impressive 13-game clean sheet record. However, this season has been challenging for her, as she has been removed from the starting lineup after conceding 31 goals in 20 matches.

The 31-year-old was a member of Sarina Wiegman’s victorious squad at the 2025 Euros, although she did not feature in any matches during the tournament. Moorhouse has made two appearances for England, maintaining a clean sheet in both.
“This is a new challenge with a different style of play. I’m excited to get started here,” Moorhouse expressed to the club media.
“Last season was incredible for City from top to bottom, and I’m thrilled to be with the champions of England. When a club like Manchester City reaches out, it’s an opportunity you can’t ignore.”
Orlando, currently five points away from the final playoff position in the NWSL, stated they were supportive of Moorhouse’s desire to return to England.
“Anna has been a vital part of our club, and when the chance arose for her to return home and compete in the Women’s Super League, we collaborated closely with her to make it happen,” noted Orlando Pride VP of soccer operations and GM Caitlin Carducci in a team statement.
“We have excellent quality and depth in our goalkeeping squad, and this loan allows Anna to keep playing at a high level while being closer to home and family.”
Khiara Keating has departed Manchester City for Liverpool, coached by former City manager Gareth Taylor, reducing the experienced options available for City’s title defense and their return to European competition.
Japanese goalkeeper Ayaka Yamashita has been City’s primary choice for some time, meaning Moorhouse will likely serve as the backup to the 30-year-old, especially with the 2027 World Cup approaching next summer.
Manchester City also expressed interest in Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Jennifer Echegini; however, sources informed ESPN that this deal won’t materialize before the transfer window closes on Thursday night.
City reportedly made multiple attempts to land Echegini but ultimately were unwilling to meet PSG’s asking price of £500,000.
Andree Jeglertz’s team has been relatively quiet this summer, having brought in Beth Mead and Niamh Charles, while also successfully securing young right-back Carlotta Wamser.
A knee injury to Vivianne Miedema, unrelated to her previous ACL injury, has intensified City’s efforts to sign Echegini to strengthen their squad.
