Liverpool have omitted Federico Chiesa and Wataru Endo from their 25-man squad for the Champions League league phase.
Chiesa was initially left out of the competition last season under then-boss Arne Slot, before being added after defender Giovanni Leoni suffered a long-term knee injury in September. The 28-year-old Italy forward is currently sidelined but is expected to resume training during this month’s international break. Since arriving from Juventus in August 2024, he has struggled for regular minutes.
Endo, 33, has been an unused substitute in both league matches under Andoni Iraola this season and is also left out, with 21-year-old James McConnell included instead.
Defenders Leoni and Conor Bradley, plus striker Hugo Ekitike, are named in the Champions League squad despite ongoing recoveries from long-term injuries. Ahead of Friday’s Premier League game against Ipswich Town (20:00 BST), Iraola said Leoni could return to training during the September international window, while Bradley and Ekitike are further away.
Liverpool begin their Champions League campaign at home to Atletico Madrid on Wednesday, 9 September (20:00 BST).
Competition rules allow clubs to register up to 25 List A players and an unlimited number on List B, with at least eight List A spots reserved for homegrown or locally trained players.
