Alexander Isak has put his challenging start at Liverpool behind him, scoring two goals within just nine minutes to lead his team to a 2-0 victory at Ipswich on Friday.
After his record-breaking £125 million ($170 million) move from Newcastle United, Isak faced a tough debut season filled with injuries, netting only four goals in 22 games.

His two goals at Portman Road marked his third goal in just three Premier League matches this season.
“It wasn’t easy. I had a long injury and the season as a whole was tough,” the Swedish striker told Sky Sports. “I was focused on having a great World Cup and then starting the season well, which I feel I’ve achieved now. That previous season is largely behind me, but it was challenging.”
Isak’s goals also secured Andoni Iraola’s first victory as Liverpool manager after his third match in charge. The ex-Bournemouth coach expressed confidence in Isak’s continued scoring ability.
“As long as Alex is fit, available, and in good form, I believe he will deliver the goals,” Iraola stated at a news conference. “My expectations for him will extend beyond just scoring — I expect him to contribute collectively, and when we play well, the goals will follow.”
While Isak was the star of the show, both of his goals were set up by Cody Gakpo, who was subject to transfer interest from Tottenham and Manchester City before the deadline but ultimately stayed at Anfield.
Although Iraola was not shocked by Gakpo’s excellent performance, he praised his versatility and impact on the game, noting the winger’s two assists and his ability to play in multiple attacking positions.
“I’ve always believed in Cody. He had an impressive preseason and has started the season strong,” Iraola remarked. “After providing two assists, he contributed well defensively to help us secure the game. His ability to play in various attacking roles is a significant asset.”
New signing Bradley Barcola, who transferred from Paris Saint-Germain for £123 million ($166 million) this week, started on the bench but made his Liverpool debut after coming on in the 64th minute.
