AC Milan’s owner, Gerry Cardinale, expressed gratitude for a proposal to grant him Italian citizenship, stating, “My commitment to Italy is long-term.”
The American businessman leads RedBird, the majority stakeholders of the Rossoneri.
He is also poised to collaborate with Inter in acquiring the land surrounding the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza and in the future developing a new San Siro stadium.
Welcoming Cardinale: Italian Government’s Initiative

With this context, Minister of the Interior Matteo Piantedosi and Justice Minister Carlo Nordio have proposed granting Cardinale citizenship as an acknowledgment of his contributions to “solidarity and social inclusion through sport, particularly targeting at-risk youth, including those in vulnerable situations or facing marginalization.”
This proposal has received approval from the council of ministers and is set to advance to the next phase.
“I am deeply honored by the proposal to grant me Italian citizenship and appreciate the council of ministers for their positive response,” Cardinale stated to news agency ANSA.
“My heritage is rooted in Italy through both my parents, and I spent my summers here during my youth. My dedication to Italy is sincere and enduring, and I am truly thankful for this recognition.”
Despite facing protests from some AC Milan supporters regarding his management style, tensions have somewhat eased this season, thanks to improved performances and results from the team.
