Christian Pulisic was substituted in the United States‘s 2-1 friendly victory over Australia in Commerce City, Colorado, on Tuesday, just before the 30-minute mark.
The U.S. star suffered a foul from behind by Jason Geria in the 28th minute, which required on-field treatment before he was substituted. Geria received a yellow card for the infraction.
After passing the captain’s armband to teammate Chris Richards, Pulisic was seen heading towards the locker room with U.S. staff.
At the time of Pulisic’s exit, Australia was ahead 1-0, but the U.S. quickly equalized with a goal from Haji Wright, who scored to make it 1-1 before halftime.
Wright added a second goal shortly after the break, once again assisted by Cristian Roldan, which marked the U.S.’s first comeback win under coach Mauricio Pochettino.
Pulisic’s participation was uncertain leading up to the match due to an ankle injury sustained during training with the USMNT ahead of their game against Ecuador on Friday.
While the specifics of Pulisic’s injury remain unclear, he was seen holding his right ankle while being attended to on the field.
The AC Milan forward had previously come on as a substitute during the 1-1 draw with Ecuador and was included in Pochettino’s starting lineup for the friendly against Australia.
