Forwards Trinity Rodman and midfielder Jaedyn Shaw have been selected for the United States women’s national team, marking their return since April.
On Wednesday, USWNT head coach Emma Hayes revealed her 26-player roster for upcoming matches against Portugal and New Zealand, scheduled for next week.
Rodman missed the past two training camps and friendlies due to a recurring back injury.
Her last appearance with the team was in April, where she scored just six minutes into a 2-0 victory over Brazil, which remains her only international match since the 2024 Olympic gold medal.
“I’m really thrilled to have Trin back with us — but only if she’s healthy,” Hayes mentioned during her news conference.
“When she joined us in April, she was feeling positive. However, the excitement carried her through that match in LA, but soon after, we realized her back issues had yet to be resolved.
“Working together with her club and the national team, we agreed on taking the necessary time to ensure her long-term health. That collaboration between club and country has truly benefited her current readiness.
“She’s one of the top players globally, and we’ve been missing her for over a year.”
Shaw experienced a slump in performance after her trade to the North Carolina Courage back in January, leading her to spend past international breaks with the USWNT under-23 team.
Following her trade during the summer transfer window to NJ/NY Gotham FC, Shaw has been performing impressively.
Earlier, Hayes indicated that her October roster would comprise players she believes are primed to lead the team into the 2027 World Cup.
Over the past year, Hayes has experimented with numerous new players, witnessing 24 debuts since taking over in May 2024.
“This is all part of our preparation for qualification next year,” Hayes explained. “This marks the real beginning of our cycle. It’s important to note that this roster is not set in stone. Choosing players for this camp was a challenge.”
It’s been over three months since the USWNT last competed, having secured a 3-0 win over Canada.

In addition to the returning roster, San Diego Wave defender Kennedy Wesley earns her first call-up.
The 24-year-old has represented the U.S. at various youth levels, including this year’s U-23 team.
Five players based in Europe return to the squad after resting during summer: captain Lindsey Heaps, forward Catarina Macario, midfielder Lily Yohannes, defender Emily Fox, and goalkeeper Phallon Tullis-Joyce.
Forward Alyssa Thompson also returns after a September transfer from Angel City FC to Chelsea.
Midfielder Korbin Shrader (formerly known as Albert), who plays alongside Heaps and Yohannes at OL Lyonnes and was part of the 2024 Olympic gold medal squad, has not been included in the senior team’s roster for the third consecutive international period.
The U.S. will face Portugal on October 23 in Chester, Pennsylvania, and again on October 26 in East Hartford, Connecticut.
The international window for the Americans will conclude with a match against New Zealand on October 29 in Kansas City, Missouri.
USWNT vice-captain and Chelsea defender Naomi Girma remains absent from the squad as she works on her recovery from a calf injury that has affected her playtime this year.
“The priority for her now is to get back to regular play with Chelsea,” Hayes stated regarding Girma. “We’ve made it clear that her health comes first.”
Forward Lynn Biyendolo will also miss out due to a knee injury.
Additionally, absent from the previous roster are goalkeeper Angelina Anderson; defenders Kerry Abello, Izzy Rodriguez, and Gisele Thompson; as well as midfielder Croix Bethune.
