Getafe head coach José Bordalás criticized Vinícius Júnior for allegedly mocking his substitution of Allan Nyom, who received a red card just 39 seconds after coming onto the field, during Real Madrid‘s 1-0 victory in LaLiga on Sunday.
Nyom was brought on in the 76th minute, only to be sent off moments later for a tackle on Vinícius, leaving Getafe with 10 players at the Coliseum.
In the 80th minute, Kylian Mbappé scored the lone goal of the match, assisted by Arda Güler. Getafe’s Álex Sancris was later shown a second yellow card for a foul on Vinícius.
Following Nyom’s sending off, Bordalás was seen conversing with Vinícius and Jude Bellingham on the sidelines.
“Vinícius approached me and said, ‘What a great substitution,'” Bordalás told Movistar. “I told him to go back to the pitch. Then, Bellingham suggested I should be on the bench, and I responded, ‘Go away, don’t talk so much.’ It was nothing serious, but I feel Vinícius shouldn’t come over to taunt me like that.”
Vinícius started the match on the bench, as coach Xabi Alonso chose Rodrygo on the left wing instead.
Real Madrid’s victory secures their position at the top of LaLiga as they get ready for a crucial week, facing Juventus in the Champions League followed by a match against Barcelona in next week’s Clásico.
“[Vinícius] had a significant impact on the match,” Alonso noted in his press conference. “He was responsible for the [red] cards, and our substitutions helped us take advantage of the situation. Everyone plays an important role.
“Playing at Getafe isn’t straightforward; you need to know how to compete. We anticipated it wouldn’t be visually appealing, but we maintained our focus and did what was necessary. We had to work hard and embrace the challenge.”
Güler’s assist to Mbappé marked the fifth time this season that he has set up a goal for the forward.
Mbappé now boasts 10 goals in LaLiga this season, bringing his total to 50 goals for club and country in a single calendar year for the second time, after scoring 52 for both France and Paris Saint-Germain in 2023.
“[Güler] possesses great quality,” Alonso added. “When he turns with the ball, he’s capable of delivering precise passes to Vinícius and Mbappé. He’s proving to be a decisive player.”
