Viktor Gyökeres expressed his confidence that there are “a lot of goals” to be had wearing the iconic number 14 shirt of Arsenal after breaking his scoring slump in Tuesday’s impressive 4-0 victory over Atlético Madrid.
The Gunners netted four times in just 14 minutes during the second half, overwhelming Diego Simeone’s squad at the Emirates Stadium.

Gabriel Magalhães kicked things off with a goal in the 57th minute, followed by Gabriel Martinelli‘s exquisite finish. Gyökeres then ended a nine-match scoreless stretch for both club and country by scoring twice in quick succession.
Gyökeres, who inherited the shirt previously worn by club legend Thierry Henry after transferring for €73 million from Sporting CP, shared with CBS—where Henry served as an analyst—, “It feels amazing, to be honest. There are plenty of goals in this shirt.”
“Honestly, there weren’t many numbers available, but when 14 came up, it was a huge honor,” he added. “We aim to win trophies; that’s our main goal, and I want to contribute by scoring.”
“Scoring four and keeping a clean sheet is fantastic. We consistently push forward. We execute well defensively and when we seize opportunities, we are exceptionally strong.”
“Both of my goals were special. I strive to always give my best and work hard; the goals would eventually come.”
Arsenal continued their impressive defensive streak, having conceded just three goals in all competitions this season. However, Gunners manager Mikel Arteta noted that his team has become more dynamic with Gyökeres on the field, particularly after their dominant performance against Atlético.
“I believe we are much more unpredictable now,” Arteta remarked. “His physicality and openness are apparent to everyone. The way he presses the ball and maintains possession is remarkable.”
“And then, the icing on the cake is the goals. He’s scored two very different ones today, and I hope he gains some momentum and continues his goal scoring.”
