Martinelli in Top Form…

Gabriel Martinelli aims to assist Arsenal in securing titles this season while also making it to Brazil‘s World Cup roster.

The Brazilian striker netted a goal in Arsenal’s 4-0 victory against Atlético Madrid in the Champions League on Tuesday, marking his third goal of the season in this prestigious competition.

He understands that maintaining his impressive form is crucial to earn a spot in Carlo Ancelotti’s final squad for next year’s tournament.

“The World Cup is approaching, and everyone is excited,” Martinelli shared with TNT Brasil after the match. “It’s just eight months away but time flies for us with games almost every week. Everyone wants to be ready, as we’ll need all hands on deck. My priority is winning titles with Arsenal and being part of the World Cup.”

The 24-year-old Martinelli, now in his seventh season with Arsenal, participated in the 2022 World Cup, where Brazil was eliminated by Croatia in the quarterfinals.

He has been included in Ancelotti’s lineups, starting and scoring in Brazil’s recent 3-2 defeat against Japan during a friendly match on October 14.

Arsenal has faced three challenging seasons, failing to transform their successes into trophies.

The Gunners have been the runners-up in the previous three Premier League seasons and reached the semifinals of the last Champions League, where they were defeated by eventual champions Paris Saint-Germain.

“I’ve been putting in a lot of effort, and the entire team is determined to go far and win titles,” Martinelli stated. “We’re committed to giving our all and focusing on the finer points.”

Under coach Mikel Arteta, Arsenal is currently three points ahead of Manchester City at the top of the Premier League and holds a perfect record in the Champions League after three matches.

The victory on Tuesday allowed Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya to achieve his fifth consecutive clean sheet.

“I regard clean sheets with the same importance as goals,” Raya commented. “If we continue to keep clean sheets, it will make winning games much easier. It’s vital for the whole team to minimize chances and maintain solidity.”

“The squad’s depth is remarkable. We have many players capable of filling multiple roles, whether in a defensive or attacking position. [Mikel] Merino came on as a striker, but he can also play as a No. 6, No. 8, or No. 10, which showcases the versatility that our coach employs to our benefit.”

“This versatility brings an extra level to our training and matches, because if you’re not performing, you risk losing your spot, and everyone understands that.”
