Bellingham Expresses…

Jude Bellingham expressed that scoring in Real Madrid‘s 1-0 Champions League victory over Juventus on Wednesday was an incredible experience, marking his first goal of the season.

Bellingham seized the opportunity inside the six-yard box after a shot from Vinícius Júnior deflected off the post, securing all three points for Madrid at the Santiago Bernabéu and maintaining their perfect record with three wins in the Champions League this season.

The England midfielder had not found the back of the net since undergoing shoulder surgery in July, but he is regaining his form just in time for this Sunday’s Clásico against Barcelona in LaLiga.

“Scoring again feels great after such a long time,” Bellingham told CBS. “I’ve missed this moment, returning to the Champions League and playing against a top team. To score the winning goal here at home is unbelievable. I felt really good on the field; playing well is crucial, and my goal really helps the team.”

Goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois praised Bellingham’s instincts: “Vini makes his move, and [Jude] is right there, ready for the rebound. He’s returning to his best form. He had an excellent game.”

Bellingham made a strong impact in his debut season at the Bernabéu, netting 19 goals in LaLiga, but faced challenges in the 2024-25 campaign as Madrid concluded the season without winning a major trophy.

“I don’t think last season was a disaster,” Bellingham said. “I still scored 15 goals and provided 14 assists; however, the prevailing sentiment seemed negative. I acknowledge that I contributed to our lack of performance last season. There were positive moments, but I know I can achieve a higher level of play, like in my first year. With my shoulder surgery behind me and a new manager in Xabi Alonso, I’m excited for how we intend to play moving forward.”

Although there were concerns about Alonso rushing Bellingham back into action for Madrid’s derby against Atletico Madrid last month, the midfielder has thrilled fans with his recent performances.

“Regardless of the goal, Jude had a well-rounded game,” Alonso remarked after the Juventus match. “It was a tough match with limited space as Juventus defended deep. I was impressed with his performance against Getafe, and today was no different, plus he scored. He was competitive, won many duels, and got into threatening positions in the box. He’s a versatile player with an array of skills, and he knows how to penetrate defenses, making him one of the most complete players globally.”

As they head into the Clásico, Madrid sits two points clear of Barcelona, having played nine matches so far.
