Ruben Amorim dismissed any comments made by Arne Slot regarding his Manchester United team following discussions about low blocks and long balls after last weekend’s match at Anfield.
The Red Devils marked their first win at Liverpool since 2016, with Harry Maguire‘s late header securing a 2-1 victory after Cody Gakpo equalized Bryan Mbeumo’s early goal.
Slot noted that it is challenging to face a team that employs a low defensive block and relies on long balls, following his squad’s fourth consecutive loss in all competitions.

However, Amorim remained unfazed by Slot’s remarks, stating he was uninterested in the Dutchman’s critique.
“Liverpool is in the past; I won’t comment on it,” he stated ahead of United’s upcoming match against Brighton. “What matters is the insight from Fabian [Hürzeler] about what’s coming up against Brighton.”
“I recognize the importance of our ability to adapt and play different styles. It was a significant victory, but I was among the first to highlight the need for improvement with the ball. Thus, I disregard Slot’s comments and the opinions about our team.”
“I can assess my team clearly, and I acknowledge that we must enhance our ball control. We aim to achieve that in our next match.”
Amorim expressed satisfaction with how his team adapted to the challenges and claimed a notable victory against Liverpool.
This win marked the first time United has secured back-to-back Premier League victories since his arrival last November, raising hopes that it could signal a turning point in his tenure.
“We often discuss this in connection with how we approach competition,” Amorim noted regarding the potential turning points. “Focusing solely on that aspect can be counterproductive. What’s crucial is our performance and commitment on the field.”
“When people overly emphasize turning points, it can detract from our approach. We’ve won two games; it’s a step forward that should have come sooner. Now, let’s focus on the next match.”
Maguire and Mason Mount will be assessed for injuries before the Brighton game, but Lisandro Martínez remains the only confirmed absentee.
This week, 15-year-old prodigy JJ Gabriel participated in training, showcasing his talent as he stepped up from the under-21s.
“Like everyone else, I recognize his talent and the attention he receives on social media,” Amorim remarked. “Due to the under-21 game, we had fewer players, so we brought in talented youngsters for training. This experience is crucial for them to understand what it takes to compete at this level, including handling our defenders and adapting to the training pace.”
“Utilizing every training session to demonstrate to these players what they should aspire to do is vital. It’s important for JJ and for all the young talents.”
