LONDON — Liverpool striker Alexander Isak has been ruled out of the matchday squad for Saturday’s encounter against Brentford due to a groin injury sustained during Wednesday’s 5-1 victory over Eintracht Frankfurt.
The Sweden forward has netted just once in eight games since his £125 million transfer from Newcastle United this summer, and he was substituted at halftime in Liverpool’s win at Deutsche Bank Park.

Mohamed Salah, who started on the bench against Frankfurt, will return to the starting XI in place of Isak. Salah has faced a tough season so far, managing just three goals across all competitions.
“I hope he never gets used to it because if he does, he loses that competitive edge,” Slot remarked, referring to Salah’s midweek benching.
“This applies to all players—not just Mo. The moment you become complacent about not playing, you lose the drive required to compete at this level.”
Additionally, Ryan Gravenberch will also miss the match against Brentford after picking up an ankle injury in the 2-1 loss to Manchester United last weekend. Conor Bradley will start in place of the injured Jeremie Frimpong, while Milos Kerkez will replace Andy Robertson at left-back.
