Rashford Racism Incident:…

Authorities in Spain are recommending a fine of €4,000 ($4,625) for a fan of Real Oviedo who is accused of making racist remarks towards Barcelona forward Marcus Rashford.

The government’s anti-violence commission released a statement on Thursday indicating that during Barcelona’s 3-1 victory against Real Oviedo on September 25, a fan was recorded using a racial slur directed at Rashford.

According to the statement, “La Liga spotted the footage online and subsequently reported the incident to the National Police.”

“Further review of footage from the stadium’s Organizational Control Unit (UCO) led to the identification of the alleged offender. The outcome of this proposal will depend on the conclusions reached in the ongoing criminal proceedings.”

Authorities have not yet announced when a final decision will be made.

Currently 27 years old, Rashford is on a season-long loan with Barcelona from Manchester United.

The England forward has been subjected to racist abuse throughout his career.

In 2021, a man was sentenced to prison in England for racially abusing Rashford on social media after he missed a penalty during England’s Euro 2020 final defeat.
