SAO PAULO — Raphael Veiga netted a pair of goals as Palmeiras staged an incredible comeback from a 3-0 first-leg deficit with a commanding 4-0 win against Ecuador’s Liga de Quito on Thursday, securing their place in the Copa Libertadores final.
Veiga found the net in the 68th and 82nd minutes, following first-half goals from Ramón Sosa and Bruno Fuchs.
Palmeiras, who previously lifted the Copa Libertadores trophy in 1999, 2020, and 2021, will now face fellow Brazilian team Flamengo in an all-Brazilian final set for November 29 at Estadio Monumental in Lima, Peru.
This victory ensures that Brazil will claim its eighth title in the last nine editions of the tournament.
In the earlier semifinal, Flamengo managed to hold on for a scoreless draw against Racing Club, advancing 1-0 on aggregate despite playing most of the second half with just 10 men.
