Inter Miami forward Luis Suárez has been suspended for the final match of the Round 1 MLS playoff best-of-three series against Nashville SC.
Suárez received the one-match suspension due to a kicking incident involving Nashville’s Andy Nájar during the second half of the match on November 1 at Geodis Park, where Inter Miami fell 2-1. Notably, the referee did not penalize Suárez with a card at the time.
The MLS Disciplinary Committee stated, “Inter Miami CF forward Luis Suárez has been suspended for one match and fined an undisclosed amount under Disciplinary Committee Parameter 3 for violent conduct in the 71st minute of the match against Nashville SC on November 1. Suárez will serve his suspension during the match against Nashville SC on November 8.”
MLS regulations permit postgame disciplinary actions if a match official overlooks an offense that warrants a card.
This marks Suárez’s second suspension in MLS during 2025, following an earlier three-game ban for spitting on a member of the Seattle Sounders‘ staff after the Leagues Cup final on August 31.
In response to the suspension, Inter Miami CF said, “The club respects the MLS Disciplinary Committee’s decision. However, we express our concern about the precedent for re-evaluating a play already assessed by match officials and VAR, and we are hopeful that a consistent standard will be applied to all teams in the future.”
With this development, Inter Miami will approach the crucial final game of the playoff series without Suárez, as they aim to advance to the next postseason round. The Round 1 series is currently tied 1-1, following a victory for Inter Miami in the first game and a loss in the second.
