Liverpool manager Arne Slot made a lighthearted comment about his team’s “consistency” this season in the Premier League, noting that it has primarily been in terms of losing matches.
The reigning Premier League champions have faced a tough stretch, losing four consecutive league games before recovering with a win over Aston Villa last weekend. They followed that up with a narrow 1-0 victory against Real Madrid in the Champions League midweek.
Due to last month’s disappointing form, Liverpool currently sits seven points behind league leaders Arsenal. Slot acknowledged that his squad needs to make necessary improvements to close the gap in the title race.
“We have indeed been consistent, but unfortunately, that consistency has been in losing matches,” Slot remarked in a press conference ahead of their upcoming match against Manchester City.
“To beat Manchester City at their ground is one of the toughest challenges of the season. It’s a match everyone looks forward to,” Slot added.
“Prior to joining Liverpool, I always knew when the fixture between Manchester City and Liverpool was coming up, and I would be glued to the television for it. These encounters are highly anticipated.”
The Dutch coach continued, “Right now, our primary focus is on ourselves and achieving consistency. We’ve suffered more losses than usual, but we’ve managed to win our last two matches.”
“Our priority is to enhance our performance and ensure the players are fit. We’ll see where that takes us.”

Liverpool may benefit from the potential return of Alexander Isak against City, as he is set to resume team training on Friday following a groin injury layoff.
“He will return to training today for the first time in three weeks,” Slot mentioned. “I noted three weeks ago that his preseason had ended, and it’s now time to assess his current condition.”
“I must reiterate, however, that coming back from three weeks of rehabilitation does not equate to returning to peak performance from three weeks ago. While our team has worked diligently, it’s essential to remember that rehabilitation cannot replace actual football matches or team practices. Patience is crucial.”
