Adams Withdraws from U.S….

AFC Bournemouth midfielder Tyler Adams has been withdrawn from the United States men’s national team squad ahead of upcoming friendlies against Paraguay and Uruguay after colliding with teammate Adam Smith just three minutes into their 4-0 defeat to Aston Villa.

U.S. Soccer announced his and Columbus Crew midfielder Sean Zawadzki‘s absence on Monday, confirming that both were “withdrawn due to injuries sustained in their club matches this past weekend,” without providing specific details about their injuries.

In their places, LAFC midfielder Timmy Tillman, who is the brother of Malik, has been called up by USMNT head coach Mauricio Pochettino and will join the training camp in Philadelphia on Monday. Tillman has made one appearance for the U.S. team, which was in a friendly against Slovenia in January 2024.

The USMNT is set to play Paraguay in Chester, Pennsylvania on November 15, followed by a match against Uruguay in Tampa three days later.

Regarding Adams, teammate Cristian Roldan remarked on Monday, “It’s unfortunate to lose Tyler for these important games for the national team, but his health is the priority. We wish him a swift recovery and hope he returns symptom-free. Without Tyler, balancing our midfield will be crucial as we adapt without a No. 6. We’ll need chemistry between the two remaining midfielders and to start camp strong, knowing Tyler won’t be present.”

Columbus spokesman Rob McBurnett stated that Zawadzki injured his right knee in Saturday’s playoff game against Cincinnati, but it’s not a long-term concern.

The roster sees the return of Borussia Mönchengladbach players Giovanni Reyna and Joe Scally, in addition to PSV Eindhoven‘s Ricardo Pepi. However, there are significant absences, including JuventusWeston McKennie, AC Milan‘s Christian Pulisic, Crystal Palace‘s Chris Richards, and Marseille‘s Timothy Weah.

Adams recently scored his first Premier League goal in four seasons for Bournemouth two Sundays ago but had to leave the match in the 80th minute due to a knee injury.

Adams’ injury further complicates Pochettino’s already limited options.

Pulisic, Richards, and Weah have been dealing with injuries, with Pulisic suffering a hamstring injury during the last international break, Weah sustaining a thigh injury on October 25, and Richards managing a calf issue.

Pochettino indicated that Pulisic was not included in the latest roster to allow him to recover fully.

Reyna and Scally are returning for the first time since participating in the 2025 Concacaf Nations League finals in March. Reyna has also transferred to Gladbach from Borussia Dortmund in that period.
