Andoni Iraola: Liverpool…

Iraola has two pre-season fixtures left—a double-header against Como on 16 August—before the Premier League campaign begins.

When they kick off their top-flight season at Newcastle in two weeks, it’s still unclear who will line up alongside Virgil van Dijk at centre-back.

Van Dijk, along with Alisson and Cody Gakpo, made his return against Monaco after an extended post-World Cup break.

He started next to 18-year-old Ifeanyi Ndukwe, a highly promising defender who is expected to go out on loan due to work permit issues. Notably, Liverpool ended the match with Luke Chambers and Wataru Endo at centre-back.

Ronald Araujo, 27, completed his medical on Sunday as his season-long loan from Barcelona—featuring a purchase option of around £47.2m—moves closer to being finalized. Meanwhile, Jeremy Jacquet, 21, has yet to join full training since arriving from Rennes.

Jacquet sustained a shoulder injury in February and has recently dealt with a minor knee issue, but Liverpool are hopeful he could feature against Como next weekend.

Iraola said they considered involving Jacquet but chose not to, adding that he should be ready for the next game, even if his recovery is taking a bit longer than expected.
