Arsenal Kicks Off New…

Arsenal will kick off their Premier League title defense against newly-promoted Coventry City in north London, while Liverpool travel to Newcastle for one of the standout matches on the opening day of the 2026-27 season.

Under the leadership of Mikel Arteta, Arsenal ended a 22-year wait for the league title by fending off a challenge from Manchester City to lift the Premier League trophy on the last day of last season at Selhurst Park. The new season begins for them on Friday, August 21.

In the second week, Arsenal will face Aston Villa before hosting Chelsea in the following game. The opening weeks may evoke memories for Arsenal fans of last year’s challenging fixtures, which included trips to Old Trafford, Anfield, and St. James’ Park, along with an early clash against City before the end of September.

This season, Arsenal won’t meet City until late November. Unlike typical years, they will head to face Tottenham for the first north London derby in early December, returning to host their rivals on May 1.

Coventry City, managed by Frank Lampard, returns to the Premier League for the first time since 2001, but they will face a formidable opponent in Arsenal at the Emirates for their debut match.

Meanwhile, Andoni Iraola will take charge of Liverpool for his first match at St. James’ Park, where he could look to replicate last season’s thrilling 3-2 victory by Arne Slot’s side in the second week.

Iraola’s first visit back to Bournemouth is set for September 19, while Liverpool will host the Cherries in the season’s final match.

The Spanish manager will also experience Liverpool’s rivalry with Manchester United in mid-November, with the first Merseyside derby scheduled for the end of November at Everton‘s Hill Dickinson Stadium, before hosting the return match at Anfield on January 30.

New Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso will begin his campaign close to home, as the team faces local rivals Fulham at Craven Cottage in the first London derby of the 2026-27 season.

Meanwhile, Manchester City will face Marco Rose’s Bournemouth at the Etihad Stadium in their first league match following Pep Guardiola’s exit.

Hull City begins their first Premier League season after winning the Championship playoff final amid the Spygate scandal by hosting Manchester United, while Ipswich Town will welcome Sunderland for their own return to the top flight.

The first Manchester derby is slated for September 12 at the Etihad, with the return match happening at Old Trafford toward the end of March.

Tottenham will start their season against Brentford in west London, while Roberto De Zerbi’s side faces a challenging finish to the season, meeting Arsenal, Chelsea, Coventry, Manchester United, and Aston Villa in their last five matches.
