Ashley Cole, the former defender for England and Chelsea, has been named the head coach of Serie B club Cesena.
Recognized as one of the finest left-backs of his generation, Cole steps into his first senior managerial position after beginning his coaching journey in 2019.
He launched his coaching career at Chelsea’s academy following his retirement, and has since had stints with Everton, Birmingham City, and England’s U21 team.
Currently, Cesena is positioned eighth in Italy’s second division, qualifying for playoff contention. The club announced that Cole has signed a contract extending until June 30, 2026, with an option for renewal.
In a statement, the club expressed, “The entire Cesena FC family is excited to welcome manager Ashley Cole to lead the Bianconeri first team and extends a warm welcome to him and his staff in Cesena, wishing them all the best in this new endeavor.”
Throughout his playing career, Cole secured three Premier League titles with Arsenal and Chelsea, in addition to winning a Champions League and earning 107 caps for England.
At 44 years old, he returns to Italy after making a few appearances for Roma during his playing days from 2014 to 2016.
