Wolves midfielder Joao Gomes is set to move to
Aston Villa
in a transfer valued at £38m.
The Brazil international has left Wolves’ training camp in Portugal and is due to undergo a medical on Thursday.
The agreement comprises an initial £34m plus a further £4m in add-ons.
Villa are seeking midfield reinforcements after selling
Youri Tielemans to Manchester United for £35m
and with
Amadou Onana ruled out until next year with a serious knee injury
sustained with Belgium at the World Cup.
They are also close to signing Switzerland international Johan Manzambi from Freiburg for a club-record fee of more than £50m.
Atletico Madrid were interested in Gomes but did not reach an agreement.
Gomes, 25, made 41 appearances for Wolves last season as they finished bottom of the Premier League.
He has played 130 times for the club, scoring seven goals, since joining from Flamengo in 2023.
